The annual event was founded in 1982 and returned for its 40th anniversary.

The skyline of Uptown Charlotte has changed a lot since 1982. Its flagship convention center was not even built until the mid-nineties (it opened in 1995) and the majority of its towers were constructed in the decades since. The Heroes Convention has grown and evolved quite a bit also but has always billed itself as a family friendly event focused on creators.

The 2022 iteration of the Heroes Convention stayed true to that formula and was the first time that the event was held since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a long-awaited reunion for many of the illustrators, publishers and writers that frequent the convention on an annual basis. Turnout for the event was robust and cosplayers, collectors and families with children were seemingly excited about the return to normalcy under the massive rooftop of the Charlotte Convention Center. Check out the photos and video for highlights from this year’s event.
